Apple Tree

One day I noticed that a young, healthy maple tree next to it had grown a branch, almost covering the little apple tree. I was worried for the little apple tree, that this big tree would overwhelm it, take away its living space, so I had it cut down.

The gardener did as I asked and then sadly walked back to me.
– As soon as I cut down the young, strong tree, the apple tree immediately collapsed and fell…
Then I realized how conceited I was. I had no humility towards nature. The two trees lived in symbiosis. The young tree, sensing that the old one needed support, had grown a branch towards it so that the little old apple tree could cling to it, not to take away its living space. In nature there is unity, love and harmony, which need not be violently interfered with by the man of little knowledge.
