Borbála Ponyi Business and Life Coach

What led you to become a business and lifestyle coach?

With a degree in economics, I spent nearly twenty years in various senior positions in the telecommunications industry. As a university student, I had the opportunity to do an internship in Belgium for a few months, and after completing my studies at the Budapest College of Modern Business Sciences, I went back to Antwerp to complete the “Master in Global Management” program.

I worked for British Telecom for many years, and later for other telecommunications companies, where I gained significant experience in dealing with people as a colleague and as a leader. It is important for me to motivate others and help improve their individual or team performance, as their well-being and adequate performance are the basis for the company’s success.
About 4-5 years ago, I began experiencing intense changes within myself, leading to significant personal and professional changes in my life.

During this process, I first sought the help of a clinical psychologist, where I had some life-changing AHA moments. (Patterns brought from home, relationship with money, what I really want to do in my life – just to name a few examples).
I also became involved in a special, sacred women’s circle, where we learned to recognize, bring to the surface, and utilize feminine energies using ancient knowledge.

“Coaching is a ‘soul to soul’ process.”

Eventually, it became clear to me that I wanted to help assisting people towards a better, more successful, harmonious, and self-aware life.
That’s why I completed a very serious accredited coaching training. This also added a lot to my self-awareness, as the training included self-reflective tasks integrated into the curriculum.

You apply a holistic approach in the coaching process. What does this mean to you? Could you elaborate further?
The holistic approach means seeing the person as a unity of body, mind, and spirit. Physical problems always start at the mental-emotional level.

“I am also a helper of helpers.”

When someone feels that something is not right, that they are not feeling fulfilled in life for some reason, or that they are stuck in a certain area of life and it feels uncomfortable or generates negative feelings, they can choose to ignore these subtle messages or acknowledge them. But eventually, if not recognized, these unresolved, unconscious issues will manifest as physical symptoms. Many physical symptoms attributed to old age (e.g., joint or back pain, thyroid problems, etc.) may result from unresolved emotional issues.

When I support someone with my coaching skills, they have already reached the recognition that something is not right in their life and that they need help to achieve positive change. During the coaching process, we bring to the surface and become aware of various issues, and then I can be of support in finding the solution. Often, just having an outsider’s perspective on the problem, situation, or obstacle, or on the coachee’s personality, can be very helpful.

Who needs a coach? Who do you primarily assist? Do you have a specific target group?

Anyone who feels the need, who has the internal awareness that something isn’t right, that a change is needed in their life. This could be a career change, finding one’s true vocation, stress management, setting a daily routine, adopting a healthier lifestyle, or establishing new, positive habits.

Business and personal life always intersect. Often, female entrepreneurs come to me with business issues or obstacles, which may have roots in various personal reasons.
The essence of coaching is to guide the coachee to their own solutions. I won’t tell them what to do; they will realize it themselves. To achieve this, they must take responsibility for their own lives. Coaching not only uncovers the problem but also leads the coachee towards positive change in their own life, bringing real results. There are cases where such severe childhood traumas are behind the problem that the coach must   recommend a psychologist or psychiatrist.

As a lifestyle and business coach, people come to me with diverse and varied issues.
With the knowledge acquired in women’s circles, I can provide special assistance to women who seek my help. Additionally, I have mastered the art of card reading and named my own intuitively functioning method Soul Cards, which I use to gain better insight into situations, both internal and external factors, through guidance provided by the cards. This is a very useful tool for self-awareness.
Upon request, I also offer card-based situation analysis. Often, other helping professionals come to me – because we are all constantly working on ourselves. I am also a helper of helpers.

You have developed your own system called “5B”. Could you tell us about it?

An inner message received during meditation led to the creation of the “5B” method. I developed my own transformative coaching process, which refers to Hungarian words starting with each letter “B.” These are:
Security, Courage, Inner strength, Solid foundation, Brilliance.

Borbála is a Master of the Art of Card Reading.

“Security” means that the coachee can express themselves in a safe, nurturing, accepting, non-judgmental, supportive space during coaching sessions.

“Courage” entails facing the problem, our internal fears, beliefs, and anything that keeps us in a bad situation. Courage also means revealing our problems, and weaknesses to a helping person.

The meaning of “Inner strength” is that during the coaching process, we together search for those inner resources, qualities, and unique characteristics specific to the coachee, from which they can draw strength to overcome their problems.

“Solid foundation” refers to the secure foundations built from identified resources on which the coachee can always rely. Besides internal, empowering qualities (e.g., self-confidence, self-esteem), it also includes external resources – such as supportive relationships: loving parents, family, relationships, friends, and financial resources. What can the coachee rely on to maintain the strength needed for everyday life?

“Brilliance” means your own shining version. Your inner radiant essence leads to the solution and illuminates the world.

What internal and external challenges did you have to overcome before being able to help others?

I had to go through the same steps myself to recognize who I am.
I had to work on patterns inherited from home or, for example, my relationship with money. I had a sense of being a minority and impostor syndrome – I thought I wasn’t good enough, not valuable enough. I took this to coaching as well. And I had to realize what my path is, who I am, and how I can best contribute to the world. As I mentioned earlier, I received a very serious, ten-month professional coaching training accredited by the ICF, where self-awareness and self-reflection were part of the curriculum. I learned a mindset that has helped me a lot in both my personal life and work.

What are your biggest professional and personal successes that you are most proud of so far?

Professionally, I am proud that besides my corporate career I listened to my inner voice, took this learning path, and dared to engage in what I love from the heart – to help others as my best self.
I am proud of the immense amount of learning and energy I put into acquiring extensive knowledge.
Additionally, I am proud to have three beautiful children whom I consciously raise relying on my coaching and self awareness tools  to lead a happy, fulfilled, meaningful life. It fills me with joy that I can set a good example for them.

What are your plans, goals, and dreams for the future?

I want to build on my twenty years of multinational corporate experience to utilize my team and organizational development knowledge within an organisation.  I want to be of support so that companies can bring out the most in their employees by focusing on their human values and various unique strengths.

Where do you draw strength for your daily life and your helping profession?

Primarily, I draw strength from motherhood, as I have three children whom I have to take care of alone. It motivates me to be able to give them what they need. For this, I also need to be well, and emotionally stable, so I need to take care of my well-being. Sometimes this means meeting friends, occasionally having a relaxing massage or regular meditation.

Do you have any role models? If so, who are they and why?

Every woman is my role model, especially if she’s a mother, who doesn’t confine herself to one role, just being a mother or a working woman, but dares to embrace and fulfil herself. And a great role model for me is Mónika Márton MCC, from whom I learned coaching. Her approach to life, mindset, and accepting, non-judgmental attitude towards people is very inspiring to me.
