Perfect Dessert for Lovers
Let’s see what it takes to make this divine dessert, besides having the desire to go into the kitchen. Because I warn you, if you just approach it casually, it surely won’t turn out well. The mousse is made with love, as well as with chocolate, butter, eggs, and cream.
Chocolate Mousse
If you’ve got everything from the fridge, melt one and a half bars of dark chocolate over a double boiler. I admit, I do it in a small saucepan over a gas flame, but try this only if you’re highly skilled. Add about 20 grams of butter to the chocolate and mix the mass until smooth. Then add two egg yolks and cook the mixture until thickened, then let it cool. If you like, you can add chilli, orange zest, and mint. Chilli is my personal favourite. While the chocolate mixture is cooling, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Similarly, beat 250 millilitres of cream until stiff peaks form.
Here’s a little trick! If the cream doesn’t want to stiffen enough, add 1-2 teaspoons of flour. I know it’s surprising, but it works! Once the chocolate mixture has cooled, fold in the whipped cream, then the egg whites, but gently! Spoon the soft cream into glasses, chill, and eat it quickly.
Chocolate Mousse
By the way, you can make two types of cream from this mixture. If you only lightly mix the chocolate with the whipped cream, you’ll get a marbled mousse, if you fully incorporate it, maybe add 1-2 teaspoons of cocoa additionally, you can conjure up a real chocolate miracle on the table!
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 bars (about 150g) of dark chocolate
– 20g unsalted butter
– 2 eggs, separated
– Optional: chilli, orange zest, mint for flavouring
– 250ml heavy cream
– 1-2 teaspoons of flour (if needed to stiffen the cream)
Chocolate Mousse
Instructions:
1. Break the dark chocolate into pieces and melt it in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler).
2. Once melted, stir in the unsalted butter until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
3. Beat the egg yolks and gradually stir them into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
4. If desired, add chilli, orange zest, or mint for extra flavour.
5. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
6. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. If the cream doesn’t stiffen, add 1-2 teaspoons of flour while whipping.
7. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
8. Then, carefully fold in the whipped egg whites until no white streaks remain.
9. Spoon the chocolate mousse into serving glasses or bowls.
10. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
11. Optional: Garnish with shaved chocolate, fresh berries, or a sprig of mint before serving.
